[TheForge] propane forge proportions

Why indeed?
Depends on what you want to do. If you consider just how much metal you can
hammer effectively in one heat you'd be inclined to a much shorter forge.
However, I like to twist and 18 inches is a bit short at times.
A good alternative to building several forges (not a big deal actually) is
to install a movable back wall and multiple burners. You can see a beautiful
example on Ron Reil's web site.
There're a number of rules of thumb involved in this art. One of the
important ones is how much burner to use for a given volume of forge. Using
naturally aspirated burners the ratio is 1 ea. 3/4" burner per. 300-350
cu/in.
The 0-35 psi. regulator I mention above will easily run four of these
burners and probably more. I use a 1" naturally aspirated burner which
yields a skosh more than twice what a 3/4" does but I have to aim it more
carefully to heat a large volume evenly than you would running two 3/4" ones
for the same btuh.

If it ain't forged
it ain't real.
Wrought iron is.
