My forge has only a one inch blanket, but it is B density which means that
it is a 3000 degree refractory. I also use bricks front and back with a
small hole in the back area for passing large lengths through the back (my
forge is 18 diameter, 24 length) and and opening in the front also made up
of hard firebrick that is approx. 4" x 6" in size.
