Tried it, loved it, never looked back. I still have a 486 with Win
3.1 and DOS 5.0 for some graphics software and one game that I like but
that's the end of my indenture to M$.

Regretably, that may be true. I had the advantage of 10 years as a
humble Unix user before jumping into the snakepit of admining my own
Linux box(es). But for me, everyting worked "out of the box" and I
only hit problems when I moved to somewhat newer hardware and had to
fuss with drivers for previously unsupported sound and video.

On the other hand, I still haven't got the web cam going that my son
gave me for my birthday in February. But over the weekend Peggy got
it going on her company XP laptop in about a hour and spent Sunday
shooting weird-color video and stills of our grandkid.

Linux is for you if, every time you encounter a M$ product, you fall
into a fit of rage and begin to froth at the mouth. Then it's worth
the effort of getting out the intellectual pitons and climbing rope
and scrabbling up the rockface of the learning curve.
