My steel supplier tells me that I can get 1018 hot rolled or cold 
rolled.  1018 is 1018 regardless of the process, the chemical specification 
does not change.  Now 1018  and A36 are different, that's for sure, but 
both are low carbon steels.  The ASTM standard for A36 lists a maximum 
carbon content set at 0.26%.
