	The main purpose of salting pelts is to prevent hair slip. 
Sucks the water out of the follicles and kills off the bacteria
that break them down.  It's a step in tanning, not the end-all.

	I go right from the flensing board into acid brine.  That
not only locks the hair tight, but allows for better absorption of
the tannin in the next vat.
