I didn't have to sleeve mine, but the problem I have making hardy stems
might apply. My hardy hole (1.25") is tapered on my 246lb Peter Wright.
This makes using square tubing for a stem useless. I generally need to
do a fair bit of grinding and fitting when I make a hardy tool.
