[Test-Equipment] Hickok pin plugs

Interesting suggestion. I had an inspiration a minute ago and dashed
downstairs to check it out--my workshop calipers (hardly the equivalent of
a micrometer, I grant you) suggest that the pin of an octal tube is the
same diameter as the Hickok probe pin. An insulating body would have to be
fashioned--maybe enlarge the hole in a conventional pin probe and add a
drop of Super Glue. What do you think?

My Hickok is a 209A, blackface meter, chrome surround. I do have the active
AC probe, although the wire is cracked and really needs to be replaced. I
got the meter a couple of months ago and haven't gone through any kind of
serious checkout. Lord, what a monster! How many service shops had room for
it on the bench?

Cheers,

I had another random thought on this (as is much of my thinking).

You might take a look at a European miniature banana plug. They're 2mm
diameter, not quite 0.095" but closer than a pin plug, and just shy of 3/8"
long. Maybe a Pomona 5936, for example. Six colors, and it will accept
the fat 18 Ga. rubber test lead. Being 'spring versus spring' it might
feel a little mushy in the jack but it should grip OK.

Hmmm ... might be on to a solution here.
