I had another random thought on this (as is much of my thinking).

You might take a look at a European miniature banana plug.  They're 2mm 
diameter, not quite 0.095" but closer than a pin plug, and just shy of 
3/8" long.  Maybe a Pomona 5936, for example.  Six colors, and it will 
accept the fat 18 Ga. rubber test lead.  Being 'spring versus spring' it 
might feel a little mushy in the jack but it should grip OK.
