Yeah, I know it is close--but right now, the only
alternative is to run with Hamsticks, which I suspect
would leave something to be desired for in regards to
efficency, at least on 40m (I have a 40m dipole, of
sorts). So, moving the antenna isn't much of an
option--at least at the moment.
I tried out the system using my FT-817 (shame on me;
it was a present from the wife, really) at 5W, and
have had no issues with RFI. The '817 was run on a
battery; but later tests with a PS did not exhibit
issues.
I bought some split ferrites, and while I did not use
several of them, I did loop the mic cord and the power
supply leads around twice for testing (seperate cores
for each cord). No change. I then tried it out into
a dummy load. The radio no longer "howled", but--I
still had audio feedback into the Scout. Now, I only
tested with a switching power supply, so my next test
will be with a different PS, and then use some
capacitance (disk and electrolytic) to see if it noise
induced by the current (under voice peaks). I am
starting to suspect this--the supply is rated at 11A,
15A peak IIRC. Something to look at tonight...
Thanks
