[TenTec] Omni V Mic Gain

David,

I would check to make sure the vox, the anti-vox
and the processor are working as they are all
involved with the audio input. Any improper
operation there might steer you to the mic gain
problem.

I would also check to make sure you don't have
a low impedance device plugged into the aux
audio input. Also, those RCA jacks on the back
come loose from the board quite easily, and it's
possible it may be shorting out. The mic jack and
external audio are in parallel, save for decoupling
by a 22K resistor and a 0.1uf cap.

If you have the FM adapter board installed, you
might remove that to see if it might be loading
something down.

Also, check D16 & D17, and especially D18 and D19.

I have an Omni V and a Paragon (they both use
the same board) and I run my mic gain at about 9:30
with the 705 and perhaps 12:00 with the Heil elements.

As a last resort, you might try replacing U3 or U4,
but before you do, find someone with a Hakko 808
desoldering iron. It makes the job A WHOLE LOT
EASIER! The traces will lift easily if you apply too
much heat.

Good luck,
John, NP2B

After getting the cable and connectors set up and the mic plugged in, I had to run the mic gain wide open to get any, repeat any decent audio out.
