Subject: [TexhomaAmateurForum] N5LEZ IRLP REPEATER NODE:464 on 444.975 PL
192.8

  Hi everyone,

The Hams of Texhoma have a new repeater with a new feature, IRLP
which stands for Internet Repeater Linking Project. This is a
standard repeater on 444.075 RX w/5mhz positive offset and PL tone
192.8 except that this repeater is linked to other repeaters across
the country and around the world via the internet.
The repeater is owned and operated by George Ancell, N5LEZ of
Electra, TX. The repeater is located on his ranch south of Electra at
400 foot level, and it is a 75 watt repeater, so those of you in
Oklahoma/ surrounding area of Texas have a good chance to access this
wonderful new creation.
The repeater is open to use by all amateurs in the area, but it is
highly encouraged that you read the operating procedures at
www.irlp.net since the repeater has to go through a period of
attention, meaning you need to key the mic and give the system time
to rise and so your signal doesn't get cut off the first few words.
Some good words to use for operating procedure are : Pause,Pause,
Pause. It is good etiquitte to wait and listen once you have linked
into one of the reflectors or other nodes (each repeater is a node),
(each reflector is like a hub and carries several repeaters when
linked together).
Listen for activity of other Hams if there is activity, wait until
there is a break , and then give callsign and wait to be recognized,
the other users will recognize you and then you have an opportunity
to tell them your name, callsign, location, such as Electra, Texas,
USA,Node number 464 if you are on N5LEZ IRLP, and something about
yourself. This is a great new way to meet Hams from other countries
and to share our hobby of Ham radio.
There are repeaters located in many countries like England,
Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Dominica, and USA among others, so
there isn't a shortage of people/places to talk to.
Visit www.irlp.net for more information, and lists/ maps of
repeaters that are in the system.
If anyone needs more information, don't hesitate to post your
questions here and we'll try and answer them or find out the answer.

  73's to all, KD5INM

  P.S. The K5VLK Women's net will be tonight at 9:00PM on 147.120
147.200, and 147.160 repeaters, don't forget that Gentlemen are
Welcome. 73's
