John:
I have used a C-528 dual-band heavily since 1994 and love it
dearly. Excellent, full feature set for a rig of that era
and performance has been terrific.
Use it all the time for crossbanding at my Lake cottage.
Tell me how many HTs support crossbanding. At least twice
when I was away from the cottage, there were lengthy QSOs on
the VHF side that ran the UHF PAs at full power (5Watts at
12VDC), continuously, for over an hour. How many rigs would
survive that kind of abuse?
When I got back I could have fried a dozen eggs on the case.
Rig took almost an hour to return to normal temperature -
and still works FB.
Ability to control power out separately between VHF and UHF
is another feature that I haven't seen on other crossband
rigs - and it is very usefull, as normally you want high
power on VHF to "hit" the distant repeater, but low power on
UHF to keep the PA heat down, because of aforementionned
100% duty cycle that can occur if the repeater gets busy.
Great equipment.
