[SOC] [OT] Recycling -includes tubes and electronics

Recycling is at fever pitch in my little part of the world.

I've might mentioned before how, locally we mostly passionately recycle.

Another view.

Again I might have mentioned our Council "Cleanups". Excepting certain
toxic materials, my council will, four times a year for every resident,
pick up heaps of stuff

The motivation originally, was not so much environmental but to stop
people dumping heaps of stuff in the bush or on the side of roads.

Now it's also a booming industry. In past years we have put stuff out to
see it disappear, with new stuff replacing it, which disappears etc. etc.

Then see some of it recycled at the Sunday markets.

Anyway, my mates living in a nearby 200 home retirement village don't
have this privilege. Their "vulture masters" charge enormous disposal fess.

Lateral thinking on my part was to "online" book in a waste collection
for my friends. Next Tuesday.

So the mates dump on my footpath five old TV's [I grabbed one which I'm
watching now - bigger screen than my old one - told you I'm a penny
pincher], a small coffee table and a Microwave].

I had years earlier tried to tell my mate "don't put that metal plate
into the microwave" - ten years ago.

So this "sheet" is on my front "nature strip". No one has added to it
yet. They will.

The microwave went to the "steel collectors" within three hours and the
coffee table I don't know.

The TV's? All working but out of date? Raped by some fellow armed with
his portable drill and "ripping out" the degaussing coils and yokes [you
need to be TV literate] for the copper.

I didn't know that degaussing coils yielded more copper than yolks. He
said they did.

Anyhoo, this fellow told me he received $6.30 Kg for copper and on
average each TV, computer monitor yielded him $7

The rest?

Into landfill. Along with beds, mattresses, coffee tables, kitchen
cupboards etc etc.

What a waste. Recycling is at fever pitch in my part of the world.

What an absolute waste.

Thanks! :) 72/73's
