Gin poles are a well used mechanical engineers solution to a very old
problem.
So, you have an existing pole or tower and you want to hoist another section
up onto it. How do you do it?
The answer is a "gin pole". As you get each setion in place, you attach
another pole or tower with a pully and "pull" up the next section of the
pole or tower. The tricky bit is to attach that to the existing tower/pole
so you can hoist up the next bit. You also have to disconnect the Gin Pole
and move it up to the next section!
Make sure you have a good climbing belt and that it's attached properly
before you start hoisting up the next heavy bit of metalwork!

Yes, I've seen it done with Electricity Pylons but, no, I have not used one
for an amateur antenna - HI.
