Another problem with language is idioms.  Some friends in Germany, retired
Sparks, are publishing a book of sea stories, in English, for wider
dissemination, and I have been correcting German/Dutch/Polish/Italian
English.  The ordinary problems are wrong word order and too many "the's."
The major problems are correcting attempts at idiom, zum Beispeil: "The
pretty, heavily tatooed steward was not my meat."  I am sure that is not
what he meant, so I re-wrote it as, "The gruesome heavily tatooed steward
was hard to tolerate."  Second thought, (too late) was to use "made my skin
crawl," but maybe it wouldn't be understood by all English readers.  The
book will be out in August.  More later.
