Ian,

Let me add a comment here that I hope will clear some of this up. We as
Americans
enjoy the 10 amendments to the Constitution called the Bill of Rights.
The second
prohibits the FEDERAL government from infringing on the rights of
citizens to own
and bear arms. But the Federal government can not stop the individual
States from
passing their own laws to control the ownership of weapons. I have found
that many
non-americans are ignorant of the separation of the powers of the Federal
and State
Governments. They assume that our government operates the way theirs do
and can
not understand the different layers of ours.

Regards,

Carlos

PS: As a Korean war infantry veteran, I have always had a weapon in my
home. I made
the decision many years ago that any one who breaks into my house to
threaten my
daughters, wife or myself will not walk out of my house and I don't care
what laws have
been passed.
