Back in the 1960s when I was working on satellites, I designed some
antennas made of beryllium (very light weight and able to stand high
temperatures--the antennas were located next to a rocket motor). We
had them machined at special facilities which collected all the dust,
which is the really dangerous stuff. I handled the finished pieces
with no precautions, although that probably wasn't really a good thing
to do.
