Subject: Re: [SOC] Brit Jokes (?)
"Probably come as a *HUGE* shock to you all but there is no such thing as an
anti-Brit joke in OZ. It simply doesn't exist".
"You can get lots of "An Australian, A Pommy and an Irishman" type jokes but
I
can never recollect ever hearing an anti-Brit joke".
(G4PDJ) [Same here, we have 'Australian Jokes' but they are 'jokes with
Australians in', not
'Anti-Australian'...and probably come from Australia in the first place.
Same with our yank jokes, they are not offensive.]
"As for anti-Limey, that's very offensive term to most Australians of my
generation and background"
["Limey" has no effect here - we don't mind. We use the term ourselves -
probably because
most of us are not sure what it means. Most think it's got something to do
with Brit ships stocking Limes on board in the old days...something to do
with scurvy maybe. We know that 'Pommie
Bastard' is a term of endearment in a big-slap-on-the-back sort of way],
"we've previously been
described as a "weird mob".
[Don't worry, you'll do...weird is good.]
"We might belt the s*** out of you in cricket and other sports but we"...
[Waddya mean...might?. It's becoming a bloody certainty nowadays, except
maybe Rugby].
> I think you are just not trying.
Doesn't exist here.
