[SMCARA] Repeater Questions

SystemFusion has been running for months on the 146.985 repeater and I
maintain it so I may be able to shed some light. You do have the choice of
modes, I started with auto in fixed out which lets everyone hear the audio
quality of the digital input. After a few weeks it was switched to auto in
and out, if you send it FM it transmits FM. You will want to use a pl on the
transmit side of the repeater, with this set a digital signal through the
repeater to an analog radio stays quiet, otherwise a bunch of noise. Control
is somewhat a PITA as the repeater has internal functions it doesn't want to
give up so linking is difficult at best. Sending text and pictures through
the repeater is possible, pictures require a $150 Yaesu mic that gets lots
of complaints. Text is straight forward.

Bill,
We already have a D-Star repeater in the area sponsored by SPARC (Southern
Patuxent Amateur Radio Club) visit N3PX.com for more details. The gateway is
about to return because the raspberry pie configuration is about to be
reinstalled.
System Fusion:
Supports digital and analog signals at the same time but the catch is the
only way for analog and digital users can play together is if the input of
the repeater is set to auto and the output is set to analog. If both the
input and output of the repeater were to be set to auto then digital users
could talk to other digital users and analog users could talk to other
analog users but not at the same time.
I don't know enough about DMR as others so I will let them speak to DMR.
