[SMCARA] USNS APACHE

BLENNY was anchored a mile or so SE of the approach end of Runway 32 at Pax until she became a fish reef. We flew over it on every landing. The were a number of P-3 flyers that this was their only "on top" time of a real sub!

Much more helpful than the MSC PAO desk. 

I knew that there was a submarine there and another in the Potomac.  I heard
the State Underwater Archeologist (yes, Maryland has one) speak a few years
back.  She talked about the two submarines.  The one on the Potomac is war
salvage from WWII.  The one off NRC Solomons dates from when the diving and
salvage school used to be here.  That was the hulk the students would dive
on. 

For some reason I had thought the hulk was on the other side of the spit. 

What goes around, comes around.  And we are still a test center!
