I agree on this point. What folks do not realize is the TV shows are very
jazzed up and made more 'interesting' for the sake of television ratings as
it is entertainment with some relevant value from a scientific standpoint.
They occasionally hit on the fact that spotters help with warning lead time
and scientific data but generally, it's about the action of the chase
without much in the way of background information.
However, when people fail to adhere to sound judgement, you end up a
casualty of the situation. I can understand the thrill of a chase or the
prospect of facing danger but when people don't consider the implications
of their decisions in that severe storms/tornado's are nothing to take
lightly (especially by untrained personnel) then that is a simple recipe
for disaster. It reminds me of the video of the chaser who went running
into a field toward a nearly stationary tornado just because it seemed
exciting.
