Shale processing is done in place if I have my facts straight. They 
fracture the shale (frack) it hydraulically to get the gas out, which is 
then extracted via wells.  Here in Michigan we receive most of our NG 
from the South.  We also have very large storage areas.  A few years 
back we were pulling it out of storage and sending it *to* California.

I'm not sure how much processing there is for natural gas, except for 
adding the *stink* and liquefying it  to sell as LPG.

Getting it our of the ground is the major cost and drilling is the major 
time consuming event as we could be talking about drilling one to two 
miles down.  Remember how deep they are drilling in the gulf.
