Maybe they could have made the code easier. For instance copy 10 or 20
words at 5wpm as proof you know the code instead of having an entire qso
like they did when I went for my novice and general.I do remember though
going to the FCC in New York and getting bored with my novice cw test
because not only was it loud, but it was also spaced at 5wpm so it made
it seem even that much easier.I was also 12yrs old and had made numerous
contacts with my Dad as the control OP. At oone point I was copying
somewhere between 20 and 25wpm. These days I'm lucky if I can keep up
with 10wpm.

Learning dode is not easy for most to learn especailly as we get older,
however I found when I got my Novice, that a lot of other hams I spoke
with at the field office had some kind of musical background and I think
that makes it easier for some than others.Something about the left brain
right brain thing.

On the positive side though, it is a step in the right direction to get
some of the younger folk involved in the hobby as the ham community is
slowly shrinking.I'm 45 so I am planning on another 50 or so years of
hamming if there are still folks to chat with(QRP CW of course :).

A lot of doom and gloom is being expressed about this and how it will
destroy the bands by saying that code kept out the riff raff. But in my
observations 6M ops by far are some of the best ops going, even though
there
are lots of Techs on this band. I think some of the "seasoned" HF ops
should
look at some of the newer 6M ops to see how things should be done!

Personally I don't think they should of dropped the code, or at the very
least kept it for Extra.
