Hello to everyone. Several things have occurred that I thought should
be announced here.
I've had the information on my Signal One web site but perhaps you have
missed it.
I have known of this for a while but it was decided not to share this on
the web until now.
The decision to post this was made after consulting with another avid
Signal One collector.
This information may already be known by some but I will now share
this. Details are few but basically,
Don Roehrs was killed in a tragic car crash involving another vehicle
May 5, 2013.
Apparently the remaining Signal One related items were sold at an
auction, some of which is in the hands of Signal One collectors.
However, much was lost. Don was holed-up in a "box trailer" somewhere
in the mountains of Colorado.
He was using this as his workshop. It seems that most of the items
there were lost.
Knowing that Don had passed away I was concerned as to what might happen
to the Signal One Logo we are all so familiar with. The Trademark
Registration expired in July 2016. After the 90 day wait period I filed
for the Trademark. The official notice was posted February 28, 2017 and
no opposition was filed in the 30 day filing window. Therefore the
Signal One Logo is now the Registered Trademark of Fred Hoffmann. My
only reason for doing this was to protect the logo. If you are using or
plan to use the logo on a non-commercial web site dedicated to Signal
Ones you have permission to use it. If you intend to use the logo for
any other reason please contact me so we can discuss it.
Darrell Huth, W6VHK, has constructed what is most likely the FINAL
Signal One. Darrell obtained the parts for the prototype MilSpec1030E
DSP Don was working on. Here is a link to the page with all the info on
this amazing radio.

And yes, Darrell has permission to use the S1 Logo on this radio. HI
And last, I have posted a PDF file of a document Don wrote in 1975 that
sheds a great deal of light on the early history of Signal One. It may
already be out there but I first saw it this weekend and it is now in my
possession. Here is a link to the document.

And there is also a two page letter from Don Roehrs to Don Payne that is
very informative on the early history and development of the CX11 and
CX11A. Here is a link to that document.
