How appropriate that our September meeting will be in the arena of Emergency Management.

Hundreds of Amateur Radio operators were pressed into service in the wake of Katrina, when all other communications means failed. Are we, in Nevada, prepared?

Otto Tune (KV7J) will bring us a wealth of knowledge about Nevada's preparedness for Disasters. Most important, Otto's unique position allows him to speak with authority about what is being done and what we can do to contribute when "the big one" hits.

Otto, a valued member of SIERA, is the Communications Systems Specialist for the Nevada Division of Emergency Management.

His background is the envy of any interested radio person. His tours include all areas of the world. As a Navy retiree (Oh, God, not another one!) with 23 years as a Crytologic Technician, his specialty was radio direction finding and fingerprinting. (Guess who's going to head up our next fox hunt???).

Out of the Navy Otto got a real job with AT&T and was involved in the stealthy business of communications support for counter-drug operations throughout Latin America. Then Lucent tapped him as site chief in Mannheim where he managed everything of a networking and communications maintenance nature from Iceland to Saudi.

You won't want to even consider missing this superb meeting! Everyone should hear this. Bring your interested friends and neighbors. Otto's the type guy that can get anyone and everyone excited about amateur radio.

September 15th - Thursday - at 7 PM. The United Methodist Church on Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.
