Bob Patten, N4BP asked me to post this ( I wish I could go, but will have
family here):
It is fun and an experience-- Pete N8PR
Each February we enter the ARRL DXCW Contest with three separate
Single-Op low band entries on 160/80/40. The proximity to the US
mainland makes us very competitive and we've won first place worldwide
on all three bands several times as well as presently holding the world
records also on all three. Our antennas are on the 160 foot unguyed
"Ifill Tower" (owner is Grafton Ifill) and consist of a 40M dipole at 80
feet, 80M dipole at 100 feet, and 160M inverted-L 90 feet tall.
This February, I will operate 80M and K4PG will do 40M. At present, the
160M position is open. We have an apartment on the site rented from
February 15-22 and 1/3 the cost is $430. We travel from Port Everglades
on the cruise ship Discovery Sun, about $160 round trip. All radio
equipment is brought on each trip and rarely have we had any difficulty
with Customs on either end.
If interested in filling the 160M position, I can give more details of
the operation and answer any questions.
