For several years now the South Florida DX Association has had presence on the
World Wide Web. The web site purpose is primarily to give visibility to our
club, provide information about who and what we are. It also identifies are
members, some of our activities, and how to contact us or become a member.
First and foremost we are DXer's, some members are beginners and some have
worked them all. One of our objectives is to promote DXing and provide help to
those less experienced. Keeping score of entities worked, or entities needed
has always been an important part of this organization. Who are the "old
salts", the "newbies", Honor Rollers, Big Guns and Little Pistols. There was a
time in SFDXA history in the days of paper want/need lists that everyone was
listed. Packet created the ability to put 'online' want lists, and the paper
lists faded away. Our web site does have a page of DX stats, and award
accomplishments. The sad thing is not everyone has taken the time to provide
their DX data. Common guys, we are a DX club, and where you are in the listings
is an important part of who and what we are.
Another page of interest to our members and interested non-members is the
individual web pages. These are accessed from the MEMBER page- again the is a
pitiful few who have sent me station information. The requirement is simple, a
picture of the operating position (with you in it) and a shot of the antenna.
Other specific details of hardware can be included. If you have a complete
station description on QRZ.com, then that can be the reference, but I prefer the
data be our site specific. So get out the digital camera, and take some station
and antenna pictures. This is part of our history, but it is easier today as we
used to take 35mm pictures, make title slides and load them into a slide tray.
They were shown at the SFDXA DX booth or at a meeting. We can not do that and
have them on line for all. Send in your PICS, with pertinent details.
With the help of Pete, N8PR and other club contributors we will try to upgrade
and improve the web site in 2011. But we will need the contribution of all
members to achieve this objective. We need feed back on which data/pages are
useful and needed, what links are valid, or broken, club event news, member
photo's and info of successes. In other words help us by taking the time to
explore pages, comment on content, and what you like, and what can be
eliminated.
The 2011 meeting schedule is now on line - www.qsl.net/k4fk
