This message is just a hello and reminders of events occurring during
the next week.

Generally during or in the month before hurricane season we have had a
section Simulated Emergency Test to prepare for the storms. Many
counties had the real drill last year and several groups have done
individual shelter drills. However, hurricanes are not the only events
we should be training for. In the next few days your ARES® Emergency
Coordinator may contact you about an emergency drill. Please monitor
all local repeaters, the section and state NTS frequencies, and check
your e-mail and the section alert at arrl.org frequently. Participate
for as much time as you are able. Better to meet your fellow hams now,
during a drill, than to meet during a disaster for the first time.

It is THE SEASON and it is not tourist season. Rather it is the rainy
season and hurricane season. Until June 12 some useful items are sales
tax free. Take advantage of the small savings. Stock up on
flashlights and batteries. Buy some FRS radios and weather radios.
Tarps, coolers, first aid kits and small generators are always useful.
Many of these items are welcome gifts.

And since it is storm season here is a link for free home inventory
software: http://www.knowyourstuff.org/. This and other useful URLs
are on the news page at www.arrl.org/sections/SFL.html.

I'm updating the section news with information on events, the ARRL
National Convention at Dayton, photos, Field Day locations, etc. The
section news summary will be sent around the fifteenth of the month, as
always.

Take care, stay on the air, volunteer.
