I've seen some other comments on-line about problems with this update.

1. Are you using a USB-to-serial adapter? If so, those are notorious 
for being flaky. The Uniden USB cable should be OK. Best choice is a 
computer with a real RS-232 serial port, but those are getting harder to find.

2. Did you retry the update? Some of the on-line comments say you may 
have to try the download multiple times.

3. Did you follow the instructions exactly? Take a breath and work 
through each step to make sure you've done everything correctly.

I've also seen some comments that the very latest Uniden release has 
problems with Project SAFE-T. Paul Opitz from Uniden has another 
firmware release that supposedly works with SAFE-T, but because it 
hasn't gone through all of Uniden's quality control procedures, you 
have to contact him directly to get the file.

I have a BCD396T and I have not done the update. No need to be on the 
bleeding edge.
