Hollywood takes creative license with everything, cars, firearms,
computers, radios, you name it. The radio used in Die Hard was the Kenwood
TH-21AT. I forget the radio that was in Argyle's limousine , but I'm
pretty sure it was a Kenwood 2 meter mobile from the era as well. When I
got my amateur radio license as a teenager in the early 90's, I knew a
couple of people that had the TH-21AT and recognized it from the movie.
TH-21ATs today go for a bit of a premium compared to similar radios, with
many ads mentioning its connection to the movie.
On another note, most people know about IMDB. Did you know there is an
IMFDB? With the F being for firearms. I'm waiting around for someone with
a lot more time on their hands than I have to make an IMRDB - for the
radios!
