Subject: FW: **IMPORTANT EMAIL - METRO BDA (Radio Coverage) System Problems - JANUARY 31, 2015
ALL PERSONNEL,
During our bi-monthly testing of MCFRS radio coverage in METRO Stations, we have found segments of the below grade Red Line system to have poor to non-existent BDA coverage. This means that personnel will have little to no radio coverage in areas of the METRO system, specifically in tunnels and some below grade stations. The MCFRS is working with WMATA and the Radio Communications Services Section of DTS to remedy the problems however there is NO estimation on a time for complete repair.
Personnel are reminded to use radio relays to ensure complete communications when operating in below grade environments. Attached is a PowerPoint outlining the use of radio relays. Also effective immediately, the NCRCIG will be dispatched on below grade METRO full assignments and METRO ROW events (MET/ALS, MET/BLS, METRO OTHER, METRO CRASH, METRO FIRE). The NCRCIG duty communications unit leader (COML) will contact command to coordinate setting up communications for the event.
Please contact Battalion Chief Baltrotsky, if you have specific questions via the chain of command.
Michael Baltrotsky
Battalion Chief
