Both of the two major parties' congressional delegations go on retreats in January or soon thereafter. They used to charter entire trains. I recall seeing the Democrats come back from the Greenbrier in West Virginia via a special train some years back. The events are usually not publicized, both because of negative publicity, and now, security as well.
