WALLOPS ISLAND

The launch of the Antares rocket scheduled for today from the Wallops Flight Facility has been scrubbed because of high levels of space radiation.

The rocket team decided to postpone the launch after readings showed the radiation was at levels high enough to possibly damage the rocket’s electronic systems, according to a NASA news release. The fluctuation happened late Tuesday afternoon.

Orbital Sciences will monitor the levels of radiation and try to set a new launch date. If the launch is scheduled for Thursday, it could happen about 1:10 p.m., which means Cygnus would arrive at the space station on Sunday morning.
