[Scan-DC] Local incident network?

Thanks to all of you for the feedback.

I was wondering more along the lines of an informal group of scanner
listeners who might be involved in providing a "heads-up" service, rather
than a professional paging service. Andrew Leyden's post from yesterday (the
boat chase) is a good example. It would be nice to have notes like that sent
to my PDA so I can be aware wherever I am.

For the time being, I think I'll just have Scan-DC emails copied to my PDA.
I would encourage folks to send a quick note to the rest of the group if you
hear something interesting going on. An indication of the system and TGID
(or conventional frequency) would be good info to include. I monitor the
Arlington County system a lot of the time and I will start sending a quick
note to Scan-DC when something major is going on.

At the moment, I'm out at the weekend house in Shenandoah County. Local
police had an interesting event yesterday where they called off a chase of a
suspected DUI, then a few minutes later the car involved in the lookout
wrecked. They called in an air ambulance, but cancelled it before arrival
because the suspected DUI driver had died at the scene. It's amazing what
some people will waste their life over.

Cheers,
Andy

The two major paging companies that serve DC/VA/MD are BNN (Breaking
News Network) and 1RWN (First Responder Wireless Network.) Both can
be found on the internet. Opinions will Coke vrs Pepsi as to which is
better.

http://www.breakingnewsnetwork.com/

http://www.1rwn.com/

Poking around does show that 1RWN does do incident pages to cell phones.

Good luck!

Kurt
