This afternoon all hxxx broke loose. I had 139.9 and 139.45 (both with
Scary - DC ANG) active, plus 143.15 (Ravage), 143.8 (Langley F16s or
A10s??) 138.425 (I think this is also NJ ANG) 291.15 (new one for me- Scary
talking extensively with Wheelhouse-Pentagon) and 269.0 (again, Ravage).
138.25 was also active a little with folks discussing picking up weapons,
range firing, ect. but it was fairly weak - I think this is yet another NJ
ANG freq.
I was on UA 718 (Denver to BWI) at about that time, listening to ATC on
channel 9. Over West Virginia,a whole bunch of commercial and private
aircraft were directed to change headings from generally eastbound (90) to
330 (northwest). They were all near the airspace boundary between Indy and
Washington Centers. The Indy Center controller was clearly unhappy, and
eventually said it was because the Washington airspace was saturated. He
also announced a phone number for all pilots to call, to complain about the
abrupt and unplanned required route deviations. I wonder if there was any
relationship with the ANG activity.
