The federal National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has
installed 25 battery-powered transmitters inside the Washington (DC)
Convention Center, which is scheduled for a Friday implosion, to test
radio propation before and after the demolition. The transmitters are
on public safety band frequencies, and the results will be used to
help design better technical and procedural methods for improving
radio coverage in large, complex buildings, both under normal
emergency circumstances, and in "disaster mode."
