All,
Interesting. I was airborn on a connecting flight from Minneapolis, MN,
enroute to BWI during that time. Around that time, the pilot announced =
that
it appeared there was another major power outage in New York, and that =
it
was affecting air traffic on the East Coast. He stated there was "lots =
of
talk" on the radio about it. He stated that all incoming air traffic to =
the
region was placed in a holding pattern.
A few minutes later, he came on again and said that the "Power outage" =
did
not appear to be as large as was first thought, and certainly much =
smaller
than the fiasco earlier this past week. He said he would keep us =
posted.
Then, a few minutes after that, he said that it appeared that the "power
outage" was actually a failure of emergency power in ATC centers in New
York. He said the power outage lasted only about 30 seconds. He also =
said
that it appeared that for my flight (Minneapolis to Baltimore) it was =
not
significantly affecting air traffic, so our flight would NOT have to go =
into
a holding pattern after all. This was the end of the event. I strongly
suspect this was related to what you heard.
Interestingly, we *DID* get into a holding pattern over Morgantown, WV, =
for
a few minutes, and finally got into BWI about 60 minutes late (30 minute
delay on departure plus 30 minute delay in the air).

All,
Looks like the new Potomac TRACOn is having power problems. About 30
minutes=20
ago the DCA Approach/Departure controller advised an aircraft that the
TRACON=20
had lost all power and that there was no estimate as to when they'd be =
back=20
in business. =20
Aircraft all cirlcing all over the DC/Virginia/Maryland area and some of
them=20
are not particularly happy.
