The switchover to the 800 mHz trunked system in Montgomery County is =
scheduled to take place Sunday, July 20 at 0635 hours. At that time =
Verizon will switch 9-1-1 calls from the old ECC in Rockville to the new =
center in Gaithersburg.
Incoming (dayside) dispatchers will report to work at the new center =
between 0430 and 0500 and begin dispatching from there at 0635. =
Offgoing dispatchers will remain at the old center until about 1000 =
hours and will be prepared to re-active it, should there be any =
problems.
The fire dispatch talk channel, (7-alpha), will be simulcast until =
further notice on VHF Channel 2 (154.16). VHF Channel 1, (153.95), will =
be able to have any 800 mHz talk channel patched into it, but it's my =
understanding that it will normally be idle. This means that all that =
will be normally heard on VHF will be incident dispatches....no =
communications from units in the field. Channel 2 will also continue to =
broadcast Motorola pager tones.
Montgomery police channels 1-5 will continue to be simulcast on UHF, but =
ONLY until all police cruisers have been changed over to 800 mHz radios. =
(No estimate on how long that will take). Once all units are converted =
all UHF simulcasts will be discontinued. Also, at the changeover time =
on 7/20 the MCPD Gaithersburg district, (the new District 6), will =
receive its own 800 mHz talk channel. (Gaithersburg currently shares =
UHF channel 5 with Germantown). That means District 6 calls will not be =
heard on UHF after 0635 on 7/20. =20
