I can't speak for what happened to you on your recent visit. 

There are two RSes at Tyson's Corner. One is in the shopping mall, and
the other is across Route 7 from the Ski Chalet, in the shopping center
next to a Staples. I have been to both, and my experiences differ from
yours. I got a 2-meter HT from the Tyson's Corner Mall RS, and my
PRO-2066 came from the other RS at Tyson's Corner. In both cases I dealt
with people who knew what was going on. In fact, I go out of my way to
contact both of those RSes first when I am looking for discontinued
items. The RS at the shopping mall is the one and only store that made me
want to go to that mall. (I should add that the presence of an Eastern
Mountain Sports and an L. L. Bean could give me two other reasons to go
there.) You must have hit whichever store you visited on a really bad
day.

As always, I do not work for RS, nor do I know anyone who works at those
stores.
