Hi Barry,
Do you have a de-soldering pump ?
AKA a "Soldapullt" ??
If the solder is sucked out first and you take small "long nose" pliers to
unwind the wires wrapped around the post, way less chances to break those.
But if ever this happens, let me know: I still have some spares.

I may be faced with desoldering and soldering to one of the U-shaped solder
posts that has a phenolic base. I remember having problems with those in my
R-390A/URRs where heat and just a little force could all-too-easily break
the phenolic support.
Any good hints on doing this without breakage? I think this one may not be
too difficult because it appears the component's leads are not that tight on
the posts and may slide off the ends of the posts without too much "pull"
once the solder melts.
I'm contemplating just using quigs but would prefer to make things a bit
neater without them if possible.
