Hello Jordan,
I already succeeded to "repair" some of those "slug wires" using a little
piece of 30AWG copper wire inserted at the center of the "break" and very
little solder.
Using a guitar string of the proper gauge also crossed my mind, but I did
not pursued the idea because of the presence of the center steel wire and
its possible effect on the coils inductance linearity and Q factor.
I also tried to remove the center steel core on one of those guitar
strings...
Good luck: the phosphor bronze outer wrap is VERY tightly bound to the core
!!
In a word: not very feasible, IMHO.
Anyways, which of the two kinds of tuning slugs are you missing now ?
The RF (red and white) or the IF (green) ones ??
I still have a few of those that I can ship to you, if you pay for the
postage.
Let me know.

The slug wires are inserted into the adjustment screw until the end is flush
with the very bottom of the splined opening and then soldered in place..My
best guess is that the end of the wire is very lighly tinned, then inserted
and soldered with heat applied to the adjustment screw...Once the wire if
removed, you can see the opening at the bottom of the spline opening...
There does not appear to be any solder on the end of the wire that is
threaded into the core, but there might be very small amount of epoxy or
similar adhesive. I see some type of substance there, but not enough to tell
what it is.
The outside diameter of the wire is ~ .0625 in., or right around 1.6
mm...Now to find a guitar string with the right construction and materials
and of the right diameter...!
More to follow...
