List,

I went back to the Digi-Key site and dug deeper into the payments documents and found out that yes, they did collect sales taxes for all states unless you provide them with an exemption certificate. I know of no other electronic parts supplier doing this so I got blindsided by doing an ass-u-me.

Still there are three problems.

1. They are not required by law to collect taxes on out of state taxes where they have no physical presence unless MN liberals decided to help out the other states.

2. The maximum tax rate in TN is 7.9 percent, so why did I pay 9% plus?

3. Does TN get all of that 9% plus that is at least 1.1% more than TN would require? Is this a MN plan to held redistribute wealth? (Inquiring minds do wish to know.)

So one still gets a free screw but I have it from a very reliable *inside source* that this policy will change when the Vikings win the Super-bowl.

Regards,

Perrier
