Same here.  My dad soldered for NASA in the '60s and '70s.  Those folks 
could/would be very demanding on what they considered a "good" solder joint. 
It nearly drove him crazy at times, but he made sure he showed me the tricks 
of the trade and I'm sure glad he did.  I don't have all the fancy stuff I'd 
like to have (I use a common sponge and tap water, etc.), but I know what to 
look for and how to "make it so".

I still remember getting comments on the good quality of my soldering when I 
was a teenager (I thought the guy was being sarcastic but when I asked, he 
was not).
