Jon,

No, Yes.

There should ba a spring that maintains pressure between the steel roller 
and the corrector stack (Or between the steel roller and whatever presses 
against the OTHER side of the corrector plates.)

(I'd have to open one up to refresh my memory, so if this is either 
incorrect, or partly correct, I apologize.)

The little steel roller SHOULD ROLL FREELY!
