[R-390] Rolling your own R-390A

Did you ever consider that they might be making them smaller for
packing/overseas shipment. I send a lot of stuff to Australia and the U.S.
Post Office has severe restrictions on size/weight. They won't accept
anything over 20 kilos. Now think what you'd have to do to an R-390A to get
it there. There are alternatives with private shippers but they are often
horrifically expensive and don't offer many of the options that the Post
Office does.
I have to rip apart practically everything I ship to Australia. I've done
this at several antique radio meets in the parking lot for overseas
purchasers. Frequently they have no choice.
Of course, I have no specific information on the situation you witnessed.
