Derek,

No, I had not considered that.  What you suggest makes good sense.

However, I got the impression at the time that the way they were taking 
apart the radios left no chance of putting them back together again.  The 
fellow had said: ".. furiously disassembling..."  It seemed to us that they 
were making profit, not trying to get a usable radio across the ocean.
