Hi WG,
One of the most enjoyable facets of AM, to my mind, is
working on your own equipment. To that end, why not do the
work on the Viking yourself? You don't say whether your's
is a Viking I or II, but both are laid out simply and
provide plenty of space in which to work. Further, there
are several audio modifications (the URL for one site
appears at the bottom of my note -- go to the TECH section
and check out the Modifications) which take the Viking's
stock audio from "communications" quality to something
quite a bit better. Do you have the manual for your xmtr?
If not, go to the BAMA site and download and print out the
manual there. If you have trouble along the way, go to the
AM Window Bulletin Board and post your question. Yes, it
takes a bit more time to do the work yourself, but along
the way you will become acquainted with the equipment
you're using which will make operation and trouble shooting
easier. Here is the URL.

Good luck!
