[R-1051] R-1051G manual on line

Maybe dogs is too strong a word but using channelized radios in a Ham or SWL environment is always a bit of an issue. Think the two things I look at are ergonomics and ease of maintenance and the squirrely audio layout of the A, B and C with the two different audio outputs never sat well with me along with the strict adherence to being on channel. The G family just appears to be a more friendly radio to use in terms of layout.
Maintenance and repair are good once you do things like build a mating connector for running the radio outside its case but still I have always been leery of sections that defy understanding like the six pack.
All that being said though I will say that for the last couple years I have been completely dog nuts about the ground base General Dynamics relative the AN/GRC-106 family of radios and have been spending all my radio time working on these for myself and others and in some ways have been away from the R-1051/T-827 way of life.
The GRC-106 is installed in my M151 and you can take the mutt out in the field and operate it, but something like an R-1051G and a URT-23 how are you going to operate that in the field unless you have a ship?

Ray,
Boy thats a tough one. I think the AB and Cs were designed to do their function at a specific level. That not being particularly great but stable.
The 6 pac is a serious messy challenge. But thats the way it was way back then. That was in line with the genrad 1164 decade synthesizers of the period. Though even those did not use chains and motors.
As my B still works as it has for some 30 years I can't complain.
I no longer in the north east ever see 1051s of any type at fleas.
Regards
Paul
