[QCWA Hotlist] E-mail addresses

Hi Dale,
Thanks for your e-mail.
First, in looking at the Chapter 123 roster, I see that about 90% of
your members have e-mail addresses listed with us, so that only means
about 10% do not have them listed with us. I would venture to say of
those 4 that do not have e-mails listed with us, at least two or three
of those actually have an e-mail address. It is just that we do not
have it. In looking at those members I find one was born in 1956 and
another in 1954. I would be very surprised if they did not have
e-mail addresses.
The e-mails that I receive on a daily basis are exactly the opposite
of what you say -- 180 degrees different.
At this time, we have had five members (out of about 7000) notify us
that they would not be renewing their memberships. I have had between
200 and 300 say that they DID renew their membership because we made
the many positive changes, including specifically the new eJournal.
So that is about a 50 to 1 ratio in favor of what we are doing. I
would say that is overwhelming!
To give you an idea, we have people who have not renewed their
memberships since the 1980's renewing now. I had one 93 year old
renew for three years. Now that is confidence in the organization!
What other chapters are doing is printing the eJournal for those
members without direct access to it. Most chapters said they would do
that for their members. I even had some individuals state that they
would do it for members that needed printed copies, just to help out.
So far we have not needed to call on any of those individuals, as no
one had asked for a printed copy. Might Chapter 123 consider doing as
other chapters and offer to print it for those that need it? If the
chapter chooses not to do this, then please send me the calls of those
that need the printed Journal and I will call on one of those
individuals who volunteered to help.
Apparently you are overlooking the point that the printed Journal
would have ceased to exist regardless of the decision that the board
made in Reno last September. The choice was either to go bankrupt,
which would of course caused to Journal to no longer be printed, or to
make sweeping changes, and have the organization continue. Obviously,
the board made the decision that was best, and we are MUCH more
healthy today than we were then.
By the way, you mention that you had no doubt that the board's
decision would have unintended consequences. You are correct. But
those consequences are very positive consequences. We have had
hundreds of new members due to the changes we made. We did not expect
that, but are certainly very please with that fact.
I have said it before, but I will say it again. Using December 2012
as a base, the memberships we processed in January 2013 were up 50%
over Dec. In February, they were up 50% over January. In March they
were up 50% over February. That means that March was up over 300% of
the December base. That does not happen if people are unhappy!
In summation, QCWA is willing to do what we can to help, but what you
are describing is exactly the opposite of what we have been seeing.
Thanks, 73,
Ken, W8EK

what you see for our chapter is EXACTLY the reason
I was so adamant about doing something for those
members without e-mail. In the case of at least
one or two members, we KNOW that the situation will
not change. I suspect that will continue to be true
for other members in other chapters.

ONLY via e-mail has effectively disenfranchised members
without the capability, for whatever reason, from
participating in the benefits of QCWA membership.
I once again urge that either paper mailings of the
"Journal" go out to these folks or they be issued
partial refunds. Sorry, but I had few doubts that
when the Board's decision was announced, there would
be unintended consequences. Well, those consequences
have arrived and I certainly hope that these members
will not be ignored.

CH 123 whose membership has expired made it very
clear that he has no intentions of renewing unless
paper distribution of the "Journal" resumes.
