Simple mathematics explains the attrition. Any organization that relies
upon or expects endless growth is facing an impossible situation under
normal circumstances. The situation in the USA is not really normal.

The Baby Boom caused accelerated growth in just about everything. The
aging and retirement of Boomers fed growth in all of the "senior"
organizations. There is no similar population wave to follow, so all of
the organizations that benefited from the arrival of the Baby Boom will
also suffer losses due to its departure. There won't be another "boom"
like that.

QCWA et al need to get used to the simple fact that membership rosters
will never be as swollen as they have been recently.
